Turkey Trot

A while ago I decided I wanted to do a 5k on Thanksgiving. I wanted to do it for a couple of reasons. One, I wanted to feel better about myself on the day that is notorious for stuffing yourself silly. Two, it is the time of year I typically have more energy and would be able to do it. Quinn thought it was a good idea so the two of us signed up. My sister Cassandra signed up too so we were all planning on the 5k.
I had been trying to get on the treadmill more and "train" the best I could. I did have a little glitch a few weeks before the 5k when I got fatigued. I never know when it will hit or how long it will last. I couldn't run for a few weeks and then only got two runs in before the trot. I was already worried about over doing it on such a busy day but I really wanted to go do the race. I decided I would do it but not really push myself.
There were a lot more people there than we expected. I think the news said there were over 4,000 that ended up coming. That is a lot of people to run with. I was kind of slow that day, but I enjoyed the run and the walking I did. I didn't overdo it and was able to enjoy the rest of the day as well. I'm glad I did it but not sure when I will do another one. My body is so unpredictable with its energy.
Here I am crossing the finish time. I was a very slow 43:03

Quinn, me and Cassandra. They both finished long before I did.

Me and my honey.

  2. Way to go Melissa! What a great accomplishment for you. I tip my hat off to anyone who can run because there would be no way that I'd be able to do anything like that. :) Thanks for letting me know about the Study books by Maria Snyder. I'm excited to read them!
