Anniversary

Quinn and I celebrated our 9th anniversary on the 21st of September. We already made some other plans using the excuse of our anniversary to spend money on them. On Saturday we are going to the Killers concert and then next week we are going to go to Las Vegas and see the Lion King while we are there. Since we are doing all that, I thought we should just have a little dinner at home. Growing up I remember a time or two where my mom made a dinner and then had the kids serve them for their anniversary. I decided that we should do that and that the boys would probably love it. Quinn knew what I wanted to do, but I told the boys that it was a surprise for him.

We set up the card table in the living room and put a table cloth on it. Then I added a little candle and the boys picked some flowers from outside to put on the table as well. I grilled some steak and fixed a few other easy things to go with it. I had the plates ready in the oven. I also got aprons for the boys to wear and had them put a towel over their arm. They were so cute. We made little menus for the Le Fancy 9th Anniversary Cafe. The name came from Miles.

When Quinn got home the boys brought us in and seated us. Part of Carter's job was to bring the salt and pepper. He was so excited to do his part he brought it to us before they brought the food out. The boys each brought a plate out to us and Miles brought us some sparkling cider. Carter would come by everyonce in a while and say, can I get anything for you sir? Then he decided to go crazy taking pictures. Thank goodness for digital cameras. After we finished that evening and were cleaning up Miles told me how much fun he had and that he would like to do that again next year. It was a good anniversary. I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful hubby and two beautiful boys. They really do make me so happy.

Bowling

We took the boys bowling for the first time the other day. They had a blast. Miles was upset that Carter had a higher score than him. I did ok. All right, it wasn't good. And the sad part is that we had bumpers up and I still didn't break 100. That's ok. I really wasn't trying that hard. I was trying to enjoy the boys and wasn't concerned with how I was doing.

It has been a long time since Quinn and I have been bowling. We reminisced about how we had fun back in the single days when a bunch of us would do the midnight bowling. Rock and bowl I believe they called it. Lots of music, lots of black lights and staying out until 2:00 in the morning. **Sigh** The days of no responsibilities. Now if we are up at 2:00 one of the kids is either sick or wet the bed or had a nightmare or...

The Food Pyramid

I just thought this was cute. Miles has been learning about the food pyramid and goes a litle overboard sometimes. As we eat he makes sure we have something from each group and if we don't then we had better fix it. Anyway, he decided to make a game out of the food pyramid. It includes some kind of flash cards as well. My favorite are the muscles on the arm at the top of the page. Awesome.

Miles and Carter's First Race

I signed Miles and Carter up for a race called the Teddy Bear 1k. It was at the West Jordan City Park and we met up with several other cousins participating in the race. It happened to be on August 15th, which this year was about the only day in August that it rained, and rain it did. On top of it raining, it was COLD! As they went to line up, Carter got nervous and didn't want to do it. Quinn ended up running with him. They were all drenched by the time they finished but they had so much fun and can't wait to do another one. They both did so well and I am so proud of them. After they finished they got to go get a teddy bear. Miles and Carter both got really nice bears.

Hibernation

Miles was talking to Quinn the other day about how he was eating so much lately. He said, I even finished my whole lunch. Maybe I'm getting ready to hibernate. Then after thinking for a minute he says, I'll bet mom would like to hibernate all summer.

Sometimes I get sad thinking about how the boys think of me as sleeping all the time. Other times I think I'm glad they understand I need to rest. I guess I wish I didn't NEED to sleep/rest all the time. A nap is fun when it is a luxury. When it becomes a necessity it gets old. Many times there are actually things (like cleaning the house) that I really want to do or feel I need to do and just don't have the energy. Or, I push through and then pay the price for weeks. It just makes me sad sometimes.
